Lutron’s DIY Caséta line has come a long way since launching in 2014 with a just singular in-wall dimmer and a plug-in lamp dimmer. Caséta was the first smart lighting product to make professional-level lighting control available to anyone with a screwdriver. Now, with a wide range of smart dimmers, switches, and plugs for indoors and out, Caséta offers a complete smart lighting control system that is also easy to use. It’s pretty easy to install and works reliably, and its many integrations with other products will completely change the way you view lighting. But what is the Caséta Smart Hub and how do you know when you need one? Read on to learn the features of the different Caséta Smart Hubs and when you would want to add one to your system.

The Caséta Smart Hub is the control center for your Caséta smart home devices. It uses Lutron’s Clear Connect wireless technology to communicate with your Caséta switches, dimmers, fan controls, Pico remotes, and sensors. The Smart Hub connects to an available LAN port on your router using the included Ethernet cable. It does not communicate over Wi-Fi, so the system still works even if your internet is down.

Smart Hub

What features does the Caséta Smart Hub support?

The Smart Hub gives you the ability to control your Caséta devices (up to 74 per hub) wirelessly via the Lutron app whether you are connected to your home’s Wi-Fi network or away. With the Caséta Smart Hub, the Lutron app also allows you to easily control your devices with scenes, schedules, and third-party assistants (like Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit) to automatically control your lights.

Automatically turn devices on/off based on your smartphone’s location with Arriving and Leaving Home geofenced scenes or Smart Away. Add the Lutron app widget to your smartphone’s home screen to quickly activate a scene. Set a schedule around the setting of the sun so your family always comes home to a well-lit house. Create a custom scene to dim the lights and drop the shades for movie night. Or turn off all the lights from the comfort of your bed. That’s just the start.

Smart Hub Features

What third party systems are compatible with the Caséta Smart Hub?

The Smart Hub enables Caséta to work with more smart home devices than any other smart lighting control brand, so you have the flexibility to build the smart system you want and control it how you like with the free Lutron app, smart remote, voice assistant, or automated schedules. And since it can control up to 74 devices, you can be confident that you can expand the system as you go.

The Caséta Smart Hub is compatible with Apple HomeKit for wireless control of your Caséta devices through the Apple iOS system including the Siri personal voice assistant. Connecting the Alexa voice service to Caséta allows you to manage your smart home with voice commands simply by asking Alexa. Caséta easily integrates with Google Home so your smartphone or the Google Assistant voice service can control your lighting and other smart products. In addition to Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, and Amazon Alexa, the Caséta Smart Hub also supports other connected home solutions.
