Lotus Tangra is a modular architectural downlight family built around compact 3-inch fixtures, with dedicated 4-inch sloped-ceiling models also available. Instead of being limited to one all-in-one fixture configuration, Tangra lets you configure the fixture style, trim finish, optic, beam angle and LED package, then pair the completed fixture with the appropriate separately ordered driver.
With 26 fixture styles in the family, the lineup can look complicated at first. Round or square? Fixed or gimbal? Wide trim, thin trim or trimless? Recessed or deep regressed? Once you know what each option actually changes, picking the right one gets a lot easier.
This guide breaks down the Lotus Tangra family style by style, compares the LED and optical packages, explains the drivers, and covers what to confirm before you order.

What Is Lotus Tangra?
Lotus Tangra is an architectural LED recessed lighting family built on a modular platform. Every fixture in the line has a cast aluminum body, and every one of them is built in Canada.
The family includes fixed downlights and adjustable gimbals in both round and square formats. Trim choices run from traditional wide flanges to thin flanges, deep regressed housings, mud in invisible trims, flangeless models and dedicated sloped ceiling versions.
Because the fixture, optic, LED and driver are all specified separately, you can run one product family through an entire project and still treat each room differently. A fixed downlight over a hallway and an aimable gimbal washing a stone fireplace can share the same ceiling aperture and the same trim finish.
Lotus LED Lights has been building recessed LED products in North America for more than 15 years, and Tangra is the company’s premium architectural line.
Why Choose Lotus Tangra Downlights?
26 Fixture Styles in One Family
Tangra includes 12 adjustable gimbal styles and 14 fixed downlight styles. That covers general illumination, accent lighting, sloped ceilings and trimless architectural details without leaving the product line or changing the look at the ceiling.
Round and Square Options
Most Tangra configurations come in both round and square. Round trims read as classic recessed lighting. Square trims suit modern cabinetry, linear architecture and ceilings that already have square details in them.
High CRI and Dim to Warm
Tangra offers six LED packages, including CRI 95 and CRI 98 options. That matters anywhere finishes, artwork, food or merchandise need to look right. There are also two dim to warm options for spaces where the light should get warmer as it dims, the way a halogen source does.
Built in Canada
Tangra fixtures are manufactured in Canada with solid cast aluminum bodies. For projects with country of origin requirements, that is worth knowing up front.

Choosing the Right Lotus Tangra Style
The easiest way to narrow 26 options down to one is to settle the fixture style first, then worry about finishes and optics.
Fixed or Gimbal?
This is the first decision. A fixed downlight throws light straight down and is the right pick for general room lighting. An adjustable gimbal tilts and rotates, so you can aim it at artwork, cabinetry, a fireplace or a feature wall.
The model number tells you which is which:
- L3F models are fixed.
- L3G models are adjustable gimbals.
Round or Square?
This is an architectural call rather than a performance one. Both light a room equally well. Worth knowing: the trim shape does not set the beam shape, so you still choose the optic and beam angle separately.
Wide Trim or Thin Trim?
A wide flange puts a visible border around the ceiling opening and covers a rougher cut. A thin flange leaves less material showing and reads cleaner. Both are still trimmed fixtures. If you want the trim to disappear completely, look at the invisible and flangeless models instead.
Recessed or Deep Regressed?
In a deep regressed fixture, the light source sits farther back inside the housing. From normal standing and seated angles you see the ceiling and the light on the surfaces rather than the LED itself.
That makes the deep regressed models worth specifying in living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and hospitality spaces where people spend time looking across the room rather than at the floor.
Invisible Trim or Flangeless?
Both give you a trimless ceiling, but they install differently.
Invisible trim models use a mud in flange that gets taped and finished into the drywall, so the fixture edge disappears into the ceiling. Flangeless models skip the flange entirely and suit millwork, wood ceilings and other finished surfaces where you cannot mud anything in.
Decide the ceiling material and the finishing method before you pick between these two, because the drywall crew has to be involved in the mud in version.
What About Sloped Ceilings?
Tangra includes dedicated sloped gimbals in round and square, with both wide and thin trims. The angled trim lets the fixture sit correctly in the slope while the gimbal handles the aiming.

Build Your Lotus Tangra Configuration
Now that you know the main differences between the Tangra styles, use the configurator below to narrow down the options. Start with a fixed or adjustable fixture, choose the shape and trim style, then work through the available finish, optics, beam angle and LED package.
As you make your selections, the builder will create the corresponding Tangra fixture code. The driver is ordered separately, so PROLIGHTING can help confirm the complete configuration before you order.

Lotus Tangra LED, Optic and Finish Options
LED Packages
Tangra offers six LED packages. Selectable CCT lets you set the color temperature at install. Dim to warm shifts the color warmer as the fixture dims, which is what most people are after in dining rooms and bedrooms.
| Code | LED Option | CRI |
|---|---|---|
| 5C98 | Five selectable color temperatures, 2700K to 5000K | 98 |
| 5C95 | Five selectable color temperatures, 2700K to 5000K | 95 |
| 3K98 | Fixed 3000K | 98 |
| 3K95 | Fixed 3000K | 95 |
| 1895 | Dim to warm, 3000K down to 1800K | 95 |
| 4C90 | Four selectable CCTs plus dim to warm, 3500K down to 2700K | 90 |
Optics and Beam Angles
Tangra separates the optic from the fixture, so the same trim can do accent lighting in one room and general lighting in the next. Optic choices include a high efficiency lens for the single CCT packages, a dual color lens required for the 5CCT and dim to warm packages, and reflectors with clear, frosted or semi frosted glass covers.
The 2026 catalog lists five beam angles: 20°, 24°, 36°, 50° and 60°. Narrow beams concentrate light for accent work. Wider beams spread light for general illumination and smoother overlap between fixtures.
Trim Finishes
Finish options across the family are white, black, alzak, white trim with a black reflector, and oil rubbed bronze. Availability varies by style, so check the finish column in the tables above before you settle on a look.

Lotus Tangra Drivers and Dimming
The driver is ordered separately from the fixture, and it is where the voltage and dimming decisions get made. Two driver families cover the line:
- 120V TRIAC dimmable, for residential projects running standard forward or reverse phase wall dimmers.
- 120V to 347V 0-10V dimmable, for commercial projects and anywhere the controls package calls for 0-10V.
Both are power selectable between 11W and 15W, so one fixture can be dialed in at install rather than reordered. Output runs up to roughly 1600 lumens depending on the LED package and optic.
Because the driver sets the dimming protocol, pick your controls before you pick the driver. A 0-10V driver needs a 0-10V dimmer and a pair of low voltage control wires. A TRIAC driver needs a compatible phase dimmer. Our dimmer selection and LED driver category are worth a look if the rest of the job still needs controls.
Ratings and Certifications
Tangra fixtures carry cETLus and FCC certification, and are listed as Type IC, air tight and wet location rated. In plain terms:
- Type IC means the fixture can sit in direct contact with insulation, so it works in an insulated attic or a vaulted ceiling without a standoff.
- Air tight means it will not leak conditioned air into the attic, which matters for energy code compliance.
- Wet location means it can go in a shower, over a tub or under a covered exterior ceiling, subject to local code.
Rated life is 50,000 hours at 70 percent lumen maintenance.
How to Read a Lotus Tangra Part Number
Tangra part numbers are built from the choices you make, which makes them easy to decode once you know the order. Take L3F-RDW-WB-LB36-3K95:
- L3F is a fixed fixture. L3G would be a gimbal.
- RDW is round deep regressed with a wide trim.
- WB is the white trim with black reflector finish.
- LB36 is a black lens at a 36 degree beam. RC20 would be a reflector with clear glass at 20 degrees.
- 3K95 is the fixed 3000K CRI 95 LED package.
Read left to right and you have the fixture, the trim shape and depth, the finish, the optic and beam, and the LED. The driver is a separate line item.

What to Check Before Ordering Lotus Tangra
Confirm the Ceiling and Cutout
Mounting differs between a trimmed fixture, a mud in invisible trim, a flangeless model, a deep regressed housing and a sloped version. Confirm the cutout size, fixture depth, ceiling type and clearance on the spec sheet for the exact model before anyone cuts a hole.
Pick the Driver With the Controls
TRIAC or 0-10V is a decision about the whole job, not one fixture. Settle it before ordering.
Match the Optic to the Lighting Goal
A 20 degree beam and a 50 degree beam do completely different jobs from the same housing. Think about beam angle, ceiling height and fixture spacing together rather than one at a time.
Review the Complete Configuration
- Fixture model and round or square
- Trim type and finish
- LED package and color temperature
- Optic and beam angle
- Driver, voltage and dimming protocol

Lotus Tangra FAQs
Are all Lotus Tangra downlights adjustable?
No. Tangra includes both fixed and adjustable fixtures. Models starting with L3F are fixed downlights and L3G models are adjustable gimbals.
What size aperture is Lotus Tangra?
Every Tangra fixture uses a 3 inch aperture, which keeps the ceiling consistent across all 26 styles.
How bright is a Lotus Tangra downlight?
Output runs up to about 1600 lumens, and the driver is power selectable between 11W and 15W. Actual output depends on the LED package and the optic you pair with it.
Does Lotus Tangra come in round and square?
Yes. Both fixed and gimbal styles are offered in round and square, and the trim shape does not change the beam shape.
Does Lotus Tangra offer trimless fixtures?
Yes. There are mud in invisible trims for finished drywall and flangeless models for millwork and wood ceilings.
Are all Tangra fixtures 98 CRI?
No. CRI depends on the LED package. Tangra offers CRI 90, 95 and 98 configurations.
Does Tangra offer selectable color temperature?
Yes. There are five color selectable packages spanning 2700K to 5000K, fixed 3000K packages, and two dim to warm options.
What beam angles are available?
The current catalog lists 20°, 24°, 36°, 50°, and 60°. Not every beam angle pairs with every optic, so confirm the combination on the spec sheet or with our builder.
Can Lotus Tangra be used in a shower or outdoors?
Tangra is wet location rated, so it can be used in a shower or a covered exterior ceiling where local code allows. It is also Type IC and air tight, so it can sit in direct contact with insulation.
Do Lotus Tangra fixtures need a separate driver?
Yes. The fixture and driver are ordered separately, and the driver determines the input voltage and the dimming protocol.
Which Tangra fixture is best for reducing glare?
The deep regressed models, because the light source sits farther back inside the housing. Final results still depend on the optic, the beam angle and how far the fixtures sit from the wall.
Where is Lotus Tangra made?
Tangra fixtures are built in Canada with cast aluminum bodies.
