AFX (formerly American Fluorescent) was founded by William Rusnak, a banker and furniture retailer with an entrepreneurial spirit. Fun fact: Rusnak’s interests reportedly grew after first encountering fluorescent lighting at the 1933-34 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago. He went into business a few years later. In 2012 the family-run company changed its name to AFX, recognizing the impending adoption of LED technology.
From that modest start shortly before World War II, AFX has become one of the country’s largest lighting manufacturers.
